My name is Ava Buckle and I’m a recent grade 12 graduate of Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School in Guelph, Ontario. A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to volunteer at a women’s shelter in Vicente Guerrero Baja Mexico and it changed my life. There I met an amazing woman, Dorothy Greatrex, who dedicates her life to building, managing and helping to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. She provides safe homes for women who have been abused, abandoned, battered and trafficked, teaching them life skills to be successful.
Visiting the shelter had a real impact on me and now I am grateful to return for a couple of months with a new mission. To teach personal selfcare and a new skill to these women. I have learned in the beauty industry, lash and brow esthetics and I believe these skills will help empower the women to create their own opportunities.
As I prepare for this trip, I’m reaching out to ask for donations to be able to buy the necessities I need to teach. I believe that every contribution will make these women feel seen, supported and skilled.
Thank you so much for being a part of something meaningful,
Ava

MNC women's shelter, sits in the dessert in the outskirts of the community where women are;
MNC opened their doors in 2011 after recognizing the lack of available resources, in the rural Baja California Mexico, for those who had been trafficked. More than a decade after the program's opening, MNC continues to bring hope to vulnerable women and children. Learn more by visiting:
